"I have been training Jiu Jitsu and Judo with Paulo for nearly four years now and count him as one of my closest friends. His style of teaching with extreem attention to detail while enjoying a warm friendly atmosphere is perfect. We train hard in the traditions and basics as well as incorporating the newer developing aspects of the game. Paulo spends time in Brazil and continues to improve his abilities each year thus improving his students. Because of Paulo\'s instruction and abilities each time I compeate I feel I have an advantage. I am a Captain with the San Diego Fire Dept. and the workouts I get from Jiu Jitsu help me stay in great shape, even at 43 years old. I look forward every day to getting on the mat at our outstanding facility and improving my game as well as helping others improve theirs. The day I got my purple belt under Paulo Fernando was very proud moment because it meant alot of hard work and dedication from myself as well as from a true master of the sport. Come train with me and I\'ll show you what its like to be part of Paulo's family."

"Four years ago I found myself in terrible shape. I was 41 years old and had loaded my 6'4 frame up to 270 pounds, roughhousing with my young son wore me out. I hated the gym. Looking around for some way to get back in shape and get my competitive juices following again I came across Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I met Paulo and saw the beautiful facility.

Four years later I'm 50 pounds lighter and in the best shape of my life (and that includes playing football at the University of Oregon.) It turned out that San Diego BJJ was more than just some place to get in shape. I found a passion that leads to a way of life as well as a brotherhood forged from hard training. The schedule (open seven days a week and morning, midday, evening and night classes M - F) allows me to hone my skills 4-6 times a week

Every man need to test their mind and body. Paulo Fernando has put together a world class MMA training facility but beyond the mats and heavy bags he has created a placed based on family spirit where a person can learn to excel. I recommend, if you are reading this that you take the next step, come in, look around, meet the instructors and students"

"The instruction that my sons have received over the past two years has given them the confidence and the discipline to do even better off the mat. They have each received multiple academic awards and I know that is it directly related to their regular participation at SDBJJ. It is a very positive environment that encourages both individuality and teamwork. Paulo has the ability and experience to get any kid to do their best while enjoying their time on the mat. There is no place like it anywhere in San Diego County"

"While there are few men with black belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, there are fewer men with black belts in Judo, and Brazililan Jiu Jitsu who are also champions in those disciplines. Even rarer still are those who can take that kind of experience and successfully translate it to teaching and managing a martial arts school. The twelve years I have spent training with Sensei Paulo have been so incredibly rewarding, and always challenging. I was never a good athlete, but I loved the martial arts and wanted to find something that would channel my aggression and help me to relieve stress. I have learned from Sensei Paulo at San Diego Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: the importance of facing your fears, using leverage to assert an advantage at just the right moment, working hard toward a goal and never giving up, the importance of technique over strength, and not surrendering to panic no matter what the circumstance. All of these lessons have lent a sense of control, balance and focus to my daily life. What Paulo teaches is so crucial that I have placed my children in his Kid Jitsu and Judo Program. I want them to benefit from the martial arts the way I have. I trust Paulo to the job of teaching these essentials to my kids. They in turn enjoy learning from him!"

"There are not enough words, in any language, that can describe the degree of instruction, friendship, dedication, respect, and pride, that you feel when you train here at San Diego Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. I have been with Paulo Fernando and the school for three years now and I will look into your eyes and flat-out tell you that this is the best school, not just in San Diego, but the world.

I have seen and trained in other schools, but nothing can compare with us. The atmosphere at our school is one big happy family. Even when students are having trouble time with life or with instruction, Paulo and the rest of the senior students are there with open arms and minds. I have never felt like an outsider or feared for my own safety white training.

If you are looking to get your heath back, learn self-defense, discipline, to compete, or just to have fun and make some of the greatest friends ever then please, come on by and check out what Paulo Fernando and his team have to offer. I will bet you anything that you will never find a school, instructor, environment, and students, like you will here at San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy "

"After training Tae Kwon Do for 7 years I started to feel like something was missing. I was missing the ability to fight on the ground. As a San Diego Police Officer I needed to know to fight on my feet and on the ground since 95% of our fights end up on the floor. I started my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training at a Gym is Escondido and Trained there for about a year. I met Paulo Fernando, through mutual friends, while I was training in Escondido. Paulo's school blew me away when I saw the quality of people and mat space available. The mats at the Escondido GYM were laid on top of concrete but at San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy mats were place over a spring loaded floor, giving enough give when working on Judo Takedowns and ground techniques. Paulo is a world-class instructor, and the atmosphere he provides at the San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is like no other. He knows everyone's name and last name and treats everyone like his own family. Going to SDBJJ Aacademy is not like going to an ordinary gym to workout, its like going to a place and hanging out with friends and family. I love training at San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy so much that I just signed up my wife up and now we training there together. "

"I spent 9 years of my childhood in Japan and thus was exposed to Martial Arts. After starting a family I decided that a gentle form of Martial Arts might be a good way to channel energy in the growing child, and also help in the education of manners and respect. When observing Sensei Paulo Fernando teaching classes and interacting with children you can see that he loves teaching them, and let me tell you the man is patient. My son James (5years old)speaks of him with respect and yet enjoys going to class. I may even start my 3 year old daughter Devon in class soon, as she keeps asking about them."
